West Conshohocken, PA — July 18, 2018 – Tandigm Scholars, a nonprofit organization formed by Tandigm Health, LLC to support deserving Philadelphia-area primary care physicians, today announced its 2018 class of scholars.
The five selected Tandigm Scholars will each receive $20,000 per year for three years, totaling $60,000. This scholarship will be used specifically to offset existing educational debt. In addition to providing financial compensation, the Tandigm Scholars Program will focus on fostering an educational environment for the chosen scholars. Select Tandigm Physicians will mentor the scholars and help them develop the skills that will allow them to be successful in providing high-quality, value-based care.
The five primary care physicians being recognized as the 2018 Tandigm Scholars are:
- Teiah Moore, DO – Family Practice Center of Newtown, Newtown, PA
- Jessica Schleusner, DO – Gateway Family Practice of Downingtown, Downingtown, PA
- Ellen Kim, MD – Wrightstown Family Medicine, Newtown, PA
- Jessica Baker, DO – Baker Family Medical Associates, Bensalem, PA
- Alexandra Doroshow, DO – TriValley Primary Care, Perkasie, PA
“Primary care physicians are uniquely positioned to influence the quality and cost of care, as they serve as the first line of healthcare for most Americans. However, less than 25 percent of new doctors in the U.S. are pursuing careers in primary care – a five percent decrease from even two years ago,” said Patrick Adams, CEO, Tandigm Health. “We recognize the critically important need for more primary care physicians, which is why we created the Tandigm Scholars program. Through financial assistance and mentorship, we are helping to prepare outstanding young doctors in the Philadelphia area to excel in the field of primary care.”
According to a 2018 report released by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the demand for primary care physicians will exceed the supply by 2030 – anticipating a shortfall between 14,800 and 49,300 primary care physicians. Understanding this projected shortage in primary care, the Tandigm Scholars Program has been designed to reward select primary care physicians for entering this high-demand field and to provide them a solid foundation in population health. The Tandigm Scholars program is just one of several initiatives that have helped Tandigm improve the quality and efficiency of care afforded to patients in the Philadelphia area.
“Being a primary care physician is an extremely rewarding job and I truly can’t imagine myself doing anything else,” said 2018 Tandigm Scholar, Dr. Jessica Baker. “But in today’s world, my job is constantly evolving and it’s imperative that I continue to educate myself to provide patients with the highest quality care. Tandigm is leading the value-based care movement in Philadelphia and I look forward to learning from their talented leadership team and their network of primary care physicians as a 2018 Tandigm Scholar.”
Now is the time to invest in the future of primary care. Funds to support the program come from donations to the Tandigm Scholars Program. For additional information about this 501(c)(3) organization, please visit www.tandigmscholars.org
